Its summer alright. In July/ August it seems we’ve moved 250,000 miles closer to the sun.
Actually, we are further away in our elliptical orbit but because the northern hemisphere is tilted toward the sun in the summer months (its reversed for the southern hemisphere) and because there is more land mass in the northern hemisphere which traps more light/ heat, we scorch. But I digress.
Just looking at the cover of this Raymond Pettibon classic -one of my all time favorites - cools me down, transporting me to the salt air of the world’s largest air conditioner.
Accompanied by non sequiturs and bits of poetry in the artist’s hand, we see the surfer as hero, battling a massive, roiling wave. But you and I know he’s just out there swallowing his heart for the thrill/ fun of it.
In paperback, this new edition features 20 additional works (the first edition sold out quickly in 2014). Its up to you whether you want to take it to the beach as you escape the heat, but we think just spending a few minutes with it anywhere will lower your temperature and make you feel right with the world again.
